Gospel-Centered Parenting Resources

Gospel-Centered Parenting Resources

So, parenting. By far the hardest call God has placed on my life. I try really hard not to do an absolutely terrible job at it, but I fall short EVERYDAY. Thank goodness I serve a God who doesn't ask me to have all the answers or have it all together right?? Can I get an AMEN!? BUT, He does ask me to shepherd them well, bring them up in the ways of the Lord & teach them about scripture and Christ.

"And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down and when you rise." Deuteronomy 6:6-7

Since I don't have all the answers... I have been scrounging around looking for resources to fill my mind with not only practical ways to parent Cade and Mack to not be tiny, tired, angry, violent humans but to find resources that will fill my mind and theirs with TRUTH. At the end of the day, I want my children to LOVE JESUS. I don't have control over that, Jesus is ultimately the one that can win over their hearts; BUT, what I do have control over as their mama is the ability to parent them in a way that points them to Him. I have the ability to fill their hearts with the truth of the gospel. I have the opportunity as their mama to use moments in our everyday to teach them the gospel whether it be through discipline, seeing creation, a conversation etc. I want to meet my Creator at the end of my life knowing I didn't do it perfectly because that is impossible, but that I attempted to teach my children about Jesus and His love for them often.

That sounds all nice and dandy... but HOW DO I DO THAT?!?! Especially when I am currently just trying to survive the day without someone choking on a lego, having 18 meltdowns and pooping on every inch of the house ALL WHILE making sure their clothes are semi clean, they have some kind of nutrition in their bellies (Costco samples count, right?) and the house isn't falling down.

I am slowly learning that even with the chaos of getting through each day with these tiny humans, there are many, MANY opportunities to point them to Christ, teach them to be independent individuals and glorify God amidst the imperfection.

This is what I/we are currently reading (still have not finished all these!) to help fill our minds with truth that will help us point those crazy kiddos to Christ in practical ways in the everyday moments. These resources have also helped shape our parenting philosophy as a whole rather than just in certain situations. I will be adding more to this list as I continue in this parenting journey, but this is what is on my bookshelf now & what I am playing in my car! There are LOTS more not mentioned in this list that have GREAT Gospel-Centered content, once I read them I'll let you know (give me about 18 years, okay?)

*Please note, these are resources I started reading once Cade was 18ish months old. There are other super helpful resources I used to help get my kiddos on a consistent, yet flexible sleeping schedule early on. I can go into more detail about that on another blog if y'all are interested!
